GCFD

Greater Chicago Food Depository

We are pleased to announce that we have renewed our partnership with the Greater Chicago Food Depository (GCFD), Chicago’s premier food bank. Starting this Fall Urban Outreach will be sponsoring monthly trips to GCFD to help stock the shelves of our local food pantry, the North Park Friendship Center, so that the needy in our community can have access to good nutritious meals. The North Park Friendship Center, located a block west of Kimball on Foster Ave. will receive food credits anytime we volunteer at the GCFD. This is a tangible way to reach out to our own community.

Here’s how it works: Every volunteer, you, earns 60 meals for a family of 4 for your three hour shift. Collectively we will be able to provide 1200 meals for a family of 4. This translates into over year worth of food for a family of 4 assuming 3 meals a day. If we assume 2 meals per day, our monthly visit will provide enough food for 2 families of 4 for about one year—300 days to be exact.

This is an ideal one-time service project for groups, classes as well as individuals.
· Shift starts: 1:30 – 4:30 pm
· Leave campus: 12:35 pm
· Return to campus at 5pm

Dress code: No volunteers may work in shorts, tank tops or open-toed shoes. Jeans and sneakers are best.
