North Park Friendship Center

Background: North Park Food Friendship Center, an extension of the North Park Covenant Church was established in the early 1998. to help the needy in the community. The center exists, per their brochure, to “improve the quality of in our neighborhood by: fostering true community; providing opportunities for the sharing of gifts, talents, and resources; and serving our neighbors in their social and spiritual needs.”


Among the many services they provide to adults, seniors, family and children are: Food pantry, clothing, referral services, welfare to Work program, job training and counseling, etc.
They also have a seniors program that meets every other Monday from 11am-2pm in the NPCC parlor. The 50+ program contains educational events, lunches, entertainment and speakers.
North Park Friendship Center distributes food and clothing to more than 400 families all located between Lawrence and Touhy, and California and Pulaski.

Focus: North Park University students help in the following areas:
o The mothers' closet
o Earning food credit at GCFD
o Serving the food pantry customers
o Helping with the 50+ program
o Stocking shelves and putting items in order

Training: A brief 45 minutes orientation.
