GLOBAL PARTNERSHIPS: CHICAGO

Date: March 7-15, 2015
Location: Chicago, IL
Group Size: 6-20
Estimated Cost: $250 per person
Partners: InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA

THE PLACE

Chicago is a diverse city loved by many and may be known for its sports teams, hotdogs, deep-dish pizza, and beautiful skyline. Chicago is the third biggest city in the US, with a population of 3 million within city limits with a populations of 34% Caucasian, 28% Hispanic, 31% African-American, 4.8% Asian, and 2.2% other races. We will be volunteering throughout third quad and spring break. We will visit some of the highlights of the city including ethnic restaurants and museums, churches, and non-profit organizations, and also look at some of the troubling aspects of the city like homelessness, gang violence and crime.

THE TRIP

The Chicago Urban Program is a week-long service-learning-worship experience that takes place in Urban Neighborhoods like Austin, Lawndale, Englewood and Humboldt Park. Students from around the Midwest will gather for service opportunities, scripture study, worship, and exploring issues such as justice, poverty, racism, racial reconciliation, violence, lifestyle, biblical community, and the ministry of the urban church. This is a great first-time Global Partnership trip, a great way to better understand the city where you live and study, and get connected with many of our Urban Outreach partners.

THE PARTNER

InterVarsity Christian Fellowship/USA is a vibrant campus ministry that establishes and advances witnessing communities of students and faculty. They minister to students and faculty through small group Bible studies, large gatherings on campus, leadership training, thoughtful discipleship and life-changing conferences and events.
